It blooms and colors more reliably than older fountain grasses and is deer resistant.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eWhat it looks like\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eFine, narrow green leaves about ¼ inch wide form an upright, vase-shaped clump 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. In midsummer the leaf tips begin turning deep red, and in fall the whole clump shifts to orange, gold and russet. In early fall, fuzzy, cylindrical bottlebrush plumes about 5 inches long rise above the foliage on arching stems, opening smoky purple and aging to soft tan.
