Leaves are small, heart-shaped to oval, about an inch long with lightly toothed edges, bright to medium green and glossy. Upward-facing, open cup-shaped flowers about 1.5 inches across in very dark violet-blue, with slightly darker veins and a pale center, sit on short stems just above the leaves.
