Passionate Returns is an everblooming daylily with 4-inch rosy red flowers of excellent form. In northern gardens it starts in early July and can keep going for about three and a half months.
The ruffled flowers are held right at the top of the foliage on multiple branched scapes with plenty of buds. Its short height makes it ideal for edging and containers.
What it looks like
Neatly formed flowers about 4 inches across with ruffled petals in rosy red and a small yellow-green throat, held right at the top of the leaves. Each bloom lasts a day, but many buds open in turn on branched scapes rising to about 17 inches above a fountain of long, arching, strap-shaped medium green leaves. The foliage clump is about 10 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak bloom the low clump is topped with a crown of rosy red flowers.
Growing it with lavender
Its rosy red flowers make a long-blooming edging in front of lavender in full sun and well-drained soil.
Care
Grow in full sun to light part shade (at least six hours of sun for the best bloom) in average, well-drained soil; once established it handles heat, clay and dry spells. Hardy in zones 4 to 9. Deadhead regularly and pull spent scapes to keep new buds coming, and divide crowded clumps every few years.
