How do you want to enter the size?

We treat the field as a square. Use length × width for exact rows.

Assumption — edit to match your farm. Every number above is an example starting point. Headland is the unplanted border for turning equipment. Shipping is usually around $25 per box; checkout calculates the real rate.

In beds, rows sit one in-row spacing apart and plants are staggered.

Ways to order

Box counts use the farm’s packing rules: one tray per box, 25 bare-root plants per box. Shipping is an estimate; checkout calculates the real rate. Prices come from the store and your quote, not this planner.

    📅

    When to plant and order

    • Spring plant shipping runs March – May. Bare root ships March 1 – May 31.
    • June – September 30, live plants are local pickup only because of heat.
    • Fall plant shipping runs October – November.

    How it works

From field size to a shipping list

The planner uses simple farm math you can check by hand.

    1. Take off the headland

We subtract the unplanted border on every side. What is left is the planted area.

    2. Fit the rows

Rows (or beds plus paths) are fitted across the width. Plants are fitted along each row.

    3. Add a reserve

A few extra plants cover losses in the first season, so gaps can be filled fast.

    4. Round to real formats

Totals are rounded up to full trays or bare-root bundles, then boxes.

    Crop planning questions

How far apart should lavender rows be?

It depends on your equipment. Leave room for your mower, tiller or harvester to pass without brushing the plants at full size. Many growers measure their widest tool and add a foot or two. Change the row spacing until it fits your machines.

    Why add a replacement reserve?

Even healthy plantings lose a few plants in the first year to wet spots, animals or weather. Having spares on hand lets you fill gaps the same season, so rows stay even for harvest.

Why is my bare-root count higher than the plants I need?

Bare root comes in boxes of 25 per variety, so totals round up to the next 25. The planner shows how many spares that leaves.

How early should I reserve plants?

The farm recommends reserving about 6 months ahead. You can still request an earlier date. Destination and weather eligibility are confirmed before any plant order is released.

Can I get help choosing cultivars for my field?

Yes. Ask the Lavender Grower assistant, or send your plan with a wholesale quote request.
