Plant transport tips

📦

Snug and upright

Wedge pots into a box or flat so they cannot tip. Loose soil in the car means stressed roots.

🌡️

Cool cabin, not the trunk

On warm days, ride plants inside with the air on. A closed trunk heats up fast.

🚗

Head straight home

Plan pickup as your last stop. A parked car in the sun can cook tender leaves in minutes.

💧

Settle them in

At home, check the soil and water if dry. Let plants rest in bright light before planting.

Why pickup

When pickup is the best way, or the only way

Summer heat

From June through September 30, live plants are local pickup only. A hot delivery truck is no place for lavender.

Jun – Sep 30

Western-state gardeners

Live plants in soil cannot ship to Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah or Washington because of strict plant shipping rules, so they are pickup only there. Soil-free bare root can ship.

Big orders, no boxes

Shipped trays travel one per box. At pickup, trays and gallon pots go straight from our hands into your car.

Pickup questions

Can I visit the farm and browse?

The farm is not open to public visits. Pickup is for orders, by arrangement. To meet us in person, see where we will be at festivals, markets and workshops on our Events page.

Where do I pick up?

Pickup details come with your order. We do not post them publicly because pickup is by arrangement.

What are the pickup days and hours?

Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM Eastern time.

What if I can’t make my pickup day?

Email pickup@greatlakeslavenderfarm.com with your order number. Our team is often in the greenhouse, so the Lavender Grower chat is the fastest way to get a quick answer.

Why can’t my summer order ship?

From June through September 30, live plants are local pickup only because of summer heat and Japanese beetle quarantine rules. Plant shipping runs in spring (from March 1) and fall (October–November), and winter dates can be requested without protection coverage.

Do I pay a deposit for plants I pick up later?

Live plant payment depends on your requested date: within 30 days, pay in full. 31 or more days out, a 50% non-refundable deposit now and the balance two weeks before your pickup date.
