Lavender Dishwasher Detergent: A Soft Whiff When the Door Opens

On this page
Your dishwasher works hard. The least we can do is make it smell nice. Our Lavender Dishwasher Detergent is made for everyday loads of plates, glasses and silverware. Open the door after a cycle and you get a soft whiff of lavender along with clean, ready-to-stack dishes.
Quick answer: Add a scoop to your dishwasher's detergent cup and run the cycle as usual. Keep the 16 oz container closed and dry between uses. The scent is gentle, so it will not linger on glasses or mugs.
The scent, and where it goes
The lavender here is deliberately soft. You notice it when the door opens and the steam rolls out, and then it fades. That is exactly what you want from a dishwasher detergent: nobody wants their morning coffee to taste like a flower bed.
Using it
- Scoop into the detergent cup, close it and run your usual cycle. Check the label for the amount.
- Keep the scoop dry. A wet scoop going back into the container is the fastest way to clump powder.
- Close the lid tightly after each use, especially in a humid kitchen.
Loading for better results
A good detergent works best in a well-loaded machine. A few general habits help any load:
- Scrape off food scraps, but there is no need to rinse dishes spotless first.
- Face dirty surfaces toward the spray arms, and do not nest bowls inside each other.
- Put glasses and mugs on the top rack, tipped slightly so water drains off.
- Mix forks, spoons and knives in the basket so they do not stack together.
- Run the kitchen tap until the water is hot before starting the cycle.
Storing it
Powdered detergent wants a cool, dry home. The cabinet under the sink is convenient, but if it tends to get damp, a shelf nearby is better. Keep it in its closed container and out of reach of children and pets, as you would any cleaning product.
The full kitchen lineup
This detergent pairs nicely with our lavender dish soaps for the pots and pans that do not go in the machine. Together they make a practical, pretty addition to a housewarming or new-home basket; build one in the Gift Box Builder.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use regular dish soap in the dishwasher instead?
No. Hand dish soap makes far too many suds for a dishwasher and can overflow onto the floor. Use dishwasher detergent in the machine and dish soap at the sink.
Will my glasses smell like lavender?
No. The scent is gentle and fades after the cycle, so it does not stay on glasses or mugs.
