Vintro White Lavender: Slim White Spikes for a Moon Garden

On this page
Vintro White lavender is a white English lavender that keeps a slim profile. It grows upright, documented at 14 to 18 inches tall and only 10 to 12 inches wide, with strong stems of white flowers over silvery foliage. Its scent is the sweet, soft English lavender kind, and its bloom runs from late spring into fall.
Like its blue sister, Vintro Forte Blue, it is a Lavandula angustifolia in the Vintro series, documented with a strong overwintering habit. It is rated for USDA zones 5a to 9a.
Quick answer: Plant Vintro White about 12 inches apart in full sun and sharp drainage. Use it where white will stand out, such as next to purple lavender or in an evening garden, and snip spent stems to keep it blooming into fall.

Planting for the evening
White flowers and silver leaves catch the last light of the day, which is why they are the backbone of a moon garden, a planting meant to be enjoyed at dusk from a porch or patio. Vintro White fits right in. Its narrow, upright spikes add vertical lines among softer, mounding plants, and the sweet lavender scent is a nice bonus on a warm evening.
Good companions for a pale palette include other white or silver-leaved sun lovers. The Companion Plant Planner can help you find partners that share lavender's love of sun and drainage.
White with purple
White lavender is also the easiest way to make purple lavender look more purple. Try these combinations:
- Alternating row: Vintro White and Vintro Forte Blue planted one after the other in a narrow strip. Same shape and size, two colors.
- Front and back: a line of Vintro White in front of taller purple lavandins.
- Paired pots: one white and one blue in matching tall containers by a door.
Planting and care
Give it full sun and soil that drains within minutes after a rain. Space plants about 12 inches apart, or one to a deep container with a gritty mix. Water deeply at planting and through the first season; after that, water needs are low.
Through the bloom season, snip spent stems back to the foliage to keep new ones coming. A light shaping trim after the mid-July peak keeps it upright. Make the last trim by late summer so new growth can harden off, and keep heavy mulch off the crown in winter. English lavender needs a winter chill to bloom well, and dry roots carry it through.
Using white lavender
White spikes are lovely in small bouquets and bundles, especially mixed with purple lavender. When drying, hang bunches in a dark, airy spot to keep the flowers as pale as possible. Its essential oil suitability is rated excellent and its culinary rating great; white lavender buds look pretty in sugar or shortbread, but use only food-grown buds and start small. Bees still find it easily.
Choosing a plant size
It is offered as 3-inch plugs, 4-inch pots and 1-gallon pots. See the product page for current sizes and availability, and use Notify Me there if a size is not ready.
Frequently asked questions
Does white lavender smell like purple lavender?
Vintro White has the same strong, sweet, low-camphor English lavender scent as many purple cultivars.
Will the white flowers stay white when dried?
Drying in the dark helps them stay pale, though dried white lavender usually takes on a soft cream tone.
Can I plant it with Vintro Forte Blue?
Yes. They share the same documented size and habit, so they pair neatly in alternating rows or matching pots.
