About Becker Vineyards
Becker Vineyards has made wine in the Texas Hill Country since 1992, using only Texas grapes from its estate vineyard near Stonewall and seven local growers. The estate winery on Becker Farms Road also has a link to lavender: in June 1998 the Beckers planted 10,000 lavender plants on a three-acre field. Heat, drought and floods thinned it over the years, and today about 500 plants of 'Grosso', 'Provence' and Spanish lavender grow in Clementine's Garden, named for the family's daughter.
The estate tasting room is open seven days a week. The general tasting is a welcome pour plus five samples, and you can walk in, though booking ahead is encouraged. Small-group and private tours take you into the production area, and once a month a Reserve Library tasting adds tank and barrel samples. The lavender blooms in April and May, when you can walk the rows or sit under the pavilion. The spring Lavender Fest brings speakers, vendors, gardening tips and cooking demonstrations; check the events calendar for its date.
Charcuterie and cheese boards are served daily, with sandwiches and salads Friday through Sunday. Minors are welcome with supervision, and leashed, well-behaved pets can join you in the outdoor areas. The shop sells lavender soap, sachets, lotion and candles first designed by the late Clementine Becker. A second tasting room is on Main Street in Fredericksburg.
Hill Country Lavender outside Blanco is about 30 minutes east, and its fields are free to visit without a reservation, so the two make an easy spring day.
