About Llano Estacado Winery & Vineyards

Llano Estacado Winery got its start in the mid-1970s, when a group of Texas Tech University professors and local investors set out to show that fine wine could be made in Texas. It has been making wine in Lubbock since 1976, and its Chardonnay won a double gold medal in San Francisco in 1984. Today the Lubbock winery produces more than 100,000 cases a year from West Texas fruit grown by partner vineyards around Brownfield, Lamesa, Plains, Floydada, Levelland and other High Plains towns. Winemaker Jason Centanni has led the cellar for more than 20 years.

The Lubbock tasting room is open every day. The standard tasting is five one-ounce pours from a rotating list, served inside or out on the patios, and wine is also sold by the glass or bottle. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the 90-minute Legacy Tour walks through the winery and pairs five tastings with cheese and charcuterie. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome.

The winery hosts public events through the year and books private parties, and its new Llano Wine Bar at Cactus Alley gives a second place to try the wines in town. Hours can change on event days and game days, so check before driving out.

Raider West Lavender Farm, also in the Lubbock area, is about 20 minutes away. It sells its lavender syrups, sugars and salts online and wholesale rather than through farm visits, so plan the winery as the visit and look for those products to take home.
