About Maria's Farm
Maria's Lavender Farm is a 23-acre property on Menge Road outside Marengo in McHenry County. The land dates to 1920 and had sat neglected for about a decade before the current owners, who traded city life for the farm, bought it in 2022 and named it for Maria. Along with the lavender field they keep three goats, chickens, Italian honeybees, a dog named Barney and a cat named Zosia, and lavender honey is the farm's signature product.
There are no drop-in hours: visits are by appointment, and most people come for a booked event. Goat yoga runs once a month in June and August; the 2026 session listed was June 6 at 11 AM, at $29 for a 45-minute class with a certified instructor, 15 minutes with the goats and a glass of wine with goat cheese afterward, capped at 25 people. The Lavender Afternoon Tea, in its third year in 2026, was held June 13 and July 11 from noon to 2 PM at $110 per person, with scones and sweet and savory bites on three-tier trays, lavender teas and a welcome glass of champagne, ending with photos in the field.
Late summer brings Notte d'Amore nella Lavanda, an Italian farm-to-table dinner in the fields on September 12 from 5 to 8 PM, with dishes such as lavender-honey-glazed lamb and house-made lavender gelato. The farm also books photography sessions and wellness offerings. Its old-fashioned country store, open during events or by appointment, sells lavender bath and body goods, and lavender is grown with organic methods. A small cottage on the property, La Petite Maison, is rented to overnight guests.
Cody's Farm and Orchard, also in Marengo, is about 10 minutes away and makes an easy second stop.
