Pine Creek Canyon Lavender Farm occupies a homestead first settled by the Hunt family in the early 1880s, in the mountain town of Pine below the Mogollon Rim. Its farmhouse dates to about 1910. Owners Terry Gorton and Rick Vesci began restoring it in 2015 and planted 5,000 lavender plants, mainly Royal Velvet and Provence for cooking and Grosso for oil, sachets and bouquets. The farm is Certified Naturally Grown.
Lavender here blooms in early summer and is harvested in the first or second week of July, but the plants stay pretty into September and sometimes mid-October. Visitors may not walk into the fields or pick, though the rows run right up to the farm store, so you see them from there. The store is open Thursday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closes on Christmas Day and for all of January. The farm also holds an annual lavender festival; dates are announced on their social pages.
The Lavender Kitchen runs hands-on cooking and baking classes, usually announced starting in March, with dishes like lavender lemon cake, cinnamon rolls and honey sticky chicken, plus spa classes for making bath bombs, soaks and massage oils. Groups of eight or more can book a private class, and private farm tours with lavender tastings need at least 20 people and advance booking. The store sells culinary lavender, body care, pet care and the owners' book, The Lavender Companion. Leashed dogs are welcome.
