About The VanLandingham Estate

The VanLandingham Estate is a historic Craftsman-style house in Charlotte's Plaza Midwood neighborhood, once the home of Dr. Ralph VanLandingham. The estate marks its start in 1913 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Verandas and a stone porch face grounds shaded by old oaks, with planted gardens, lawns and winding paths that change with the seasons.

It operates as a private event venue rather than a place to drop in. Food, drink and rentals all come through Best Impressions, a Charlotte caterer in business since 1989; outside caterers and outside alcohol are not allowed. Events of roughly 100 to 300 guests use the house, an outdoor ceremony space, a patio and a 50-by-82-foot tent. The tent has a white top in March through June and September, and a clear top from October through December.

Weddings are the main use, but the estate also hosts fundraisers, employee award nights, cocktail hours and holiday parties. Peak seasons are March through June and September through November, when guest minimums are 50 Monday to Thursday, 75 on Friday and Sunday, and 125 on Saturday. Friday and Saturday events must end by 10 pm. Menu tastings run in January, February, March, July and August, Tuesday to Thursday.

Running Creek Lavender in Locust is about 45 minutes east of Plaza Midwood. Couples and out-of-town guests can fill a free day before an event with a reserved session among the lavender rows.
