About Vivác Winery
Vivác Winery is run by two brothers who grew up on an apple farm in Dixon, Chris and Jesse Padberg, together with their wives, Liliana and Michele. The brothers began working on the winery's license in 1998, the four opened the winery in 2001, and the Dixon tasting room followed in fall 2003. Chris and Jesse tend the estate vineyards and make the wine together, at about 6,000 feet, one of the higher-elevation wineries anywhere.
The adobe tasting room stands at the corner of Highways 68 and 75, about 45 miles north of Santa Fe and 25 miles south of Taos, and is open seven days a week all year. A standard tasting is four wines for $16, served at your table, and you can sit on the patio overlooking the vineyard. Inside, a 900-square-foot room shows blown glass by Shel Neymark and work by other New Mexico artists. Liliana's Ek.Chuah chocolates, painted truffles made in house, are sold alongside picnic items and honey from the property's bees.
Bring your own picnic if you like, or pick up sandwiches and pizza from the deli at the Dixon store a few minutes away. Groups of 6 to 20 can book a hosted tasting at least a week ahead, and groups of 10 or more adults can book a three-hour winery and vineyard tour with a winemaker-led barrel tasting at least 10 days ahead. Events include live music happy hours from spring through fall, weekly karaoke, picking parties and Halloween.
Purple Adobe Lavender Farm in Abiquiu is about an hour west by way of Española, so a summer loop can link the lavender farm store with an afternoon on the patio here.
