Farm Kitchen Cookbook

The farm kitchen cookbook holds 46 lavender foods. You discover each one by cooking the right pairing of culinary lavender and pantry items, then make it at home or in a Licensed Kitchen.

Overview

The cookbook is the list of every food the farm kitchen knows. It starts out mostly blank: each recipe you have not found yet shows only how many ingredients it needs and names one of them as a hint. When you cook a pairing that matches, the recipe is written into your cookbook, and the header counts how many of the 46 you have found.

Every recipe starts with culinary lavender. Most add one to three items from the pantry: supplies from the Processing Barn supplier, fresh goods from the Market Square grocer, or fruit and honey from your own farm.

Discovering a recipe

  1. Open the farm kitchen and pick your state, if you have not yet.
  2. Tap pantry items to put them in the pots: culinary lavender plus up to three others. The order does not matter.
  3. Tap Cook. If the pairing matches a recipe you have unlocked, it goes into your cookbook, even if you are still missing an ingredient to make it.
  4. Next time, tap Use on a cookbook entry to fill the pots for you.

Why a recipe stays locked

  • Farm level: cooking a recipe above your level only tells you when it unlocks; it is not added to the cookbook yet.
  • Season: summer recipes need summer on the farm, fall recipes need fall. Out of season, the kitchen says when they come back.
  • Your state's law: at home you can only make the kinds of food your state's cottage food law covers. Others say they need a Licensed Kitchen.
  • Alcohol extract: Lavender Extract always needs a Licensed Kitchen; no state allows it from a home kitchen.

Groups in the cookbook

  • The first cookbook (13): teas, sugars, salts, honey, shortbread, granola, mixes, jelly, syrup, lemonade and vinegar, all from Level 1 at home.
  • The Licensed Kitchen's recipes (8): foods the Processing Barn also makes, such as scone mix, concentrate, ice-cream base and cocoa, plus two culinary jars.
  • The farm's cottage food line (15): pancake, bread, muffin and brownie mixes, drink mixes and drink bombs, a spiced cider mix, coffee syrup and ground coffee, maple syrup, honey sticks, rock candy, cocktail picks, a spice grinder and Lavender Extract.
  • The farm-stand bakery (4): fresh scones, cookies, small pies and brownies made with butter, milk & eggs.
  • Seasonal (6): in summer, Blueberry Jam, Strawberry Lemonade and Berry Crumble Bars; in fall, Pumpkin Bread, Apple Butter and Caramel Apples.

Tips

  • A recipe with a matching article in the farm's Field Notes shows a Cook it for real link, and some also show Find it at the farm stand.
  • Tea Blend needs nothing but culinary lavender, so it is the easiest first discovery.
  • Grow apples, berries and pumpkins in Diversification, or keep bees, and many pantry items cost you nothing.
