Cottage Kitchen

The cottage kitchen lets you cook lavender foods at home under your own state's cottage food law. Put culinary lavender and up to three pantry items in the pots, cook, and discover recipes for your cookbook.

🎮 Play it in the game

Overview

The farm kitchen is shared by 2D and 3D. You start with cottage food in the Farmhouse kitchen, which follows the law of the state you pick: what you may make, the yearly sales limit, where you may sell and the label you must use. Later you can grow into a Licensed Kitchen for every recipe, no cap and every sales channel.

Cottage batches land on the same finished shelf as Licensed Kitchen products, under the same names, so the rest of the game can sell them.

How to cook

  1. Pick your state at the top (the kitchen also guesses it from your farm location).
  2. Complete the setup steps your state needs (see Cottage food setup).
  3. Tap ingredients in the pantry to put them in the pots. Every recipe starts with culinary lavender, plus up to three other items.
  4. Tap Cook. If the pairing matches a recipe, you discover it and it is written into your cookbook (+12 XP the first time, +4 after).
  5. Or tap Use on a cookbook recipe to fill the pots for you.

Home batch rules

  • A home batch uses half the lavender of a Licensed Kitchen batch (never less than 2), one of each other ingredient, 1 label and 1 food packaging. It makes 1 unit.
  • The home oven does 4 batches a farm day.
  • Your state must allow that kind of food. If it does not, the kitchen says the recipe needs a Licensed Kitchen.
  • States with a yearly limit count the value of what you cook at home. At the limit, you must license to keep making food to sell.
  • Alcohol-based extracts can never be made at home.

A worked example

Lavender Shortbread uses culinary lavender plus flour & dry goods and is worth about 38 coins. A Licensed Kitchen uses 12 culinary lavender; a home batch uses 6, plus 1 flour & dry goods, 1 label and 1 food packaging.

Seasonal and level-locked recipes

Some recipes unlock at higher farm levels (up to Level 10 for Lavender Extract). Seasonal ones come and go: blueberry jam, strawberry lemonade and berry crumble bars in summer; pumpkin bread, apple butter and caramel apples in fall.

Licensed Kitchen

Once you own a Licensed Kitchen (500 coins), cooking a recipe the Processing Barn knows sends it to the barn's queue. Recipes the barn does not list are cooked in the kitchen itself: all the listed lavender, one of each pantry item and a label make 3 units, up to 10 batches a farm day (+15 XP the first time, +6 after).

Tips

  • Cook it for real: recipes with a matching Field Notes article show a 'Cook it for real' link.
  • Recipes you have not found yet show how many ingredients they need and name one of them as a hint.
