Overview
Once you pick a state, the kitchen shows Get set up for cottage food in your state. The list only includes the steps your state needs. When everything is done you get +10 XP and the message 'You’re set up for cottage food… Happy baking!'
The steps
- Register or apply. States with a registration or permit show a button with the fee (in coins) or 'free'. States without one show a check mark.
- Take the food-safety course if your state requires it. It is three questions; a wrong answer just says 'Not quite. Have another look.'
- If your state needs neither, tap I’m ready: start my cottage kitchen.
The course questions
| Question | Right answer |
|---|---|
| Which of these can usually be sold as cottage food? | Lavender shortbread |
| What goes on every cottage food label? | The statement your state requires (made in a home kitchen that isn’t inspected) |
| Why can’t most home kitchens sell lavender lemonade or ice cream? | They need a fridge to stay safe |
In 3D
The town clerk at the Market Square Bank files your cottage food permit or registration.
Tips
- Setup is per state. If you change states, you set up again for the new one.
- A Licensed Kitchen skips setup entirely.
