About the Product

Cream Puff pairs lemon yellow buds that open to cream flowers with a tight, compact habit. Each bloom is 3 to 4 inches wide with two rows of broad, overlapping petals, the top row tilted upward for a more formal look.

Flowers completely cover a dome of dark green foliage about 14 to 16 inches tall and more than 2 feet wide. It blooms for many weeks starting in early summer, and deadheading brings more flowers into fall. It is perfect for containers and the front of a sunny border.

What it looks like

Large 3 to 4-inch flowers with two rows of wide, overlapping petals; the top row angles upward from the bottom row, giving a semi-double, cupped look. Buds are lemon yellow and open to soft cream flowers with golden centers. Flowers completely cover a dense, dome-shaped mound of dark green, lance-shaped leaves. The plant is about 14 to 16 inches tall and 26 to 28 inches wide. At peak the dome is a solid blanket of cream and pale yellow blooms.

Growing it with lavender

Shasta daisies share lavender's love of full sun and well-drained soil, and their crisp white flowers with gold centers make a classic cottage-garden partner for purple lavender in early summer.

Care

Plant in full sun in average, well-drained soil; water during dry spells but avoid soggy ground, especially in winter. Hardy in zones 5-9. Deadhead spent flowers to keep new buds coming, and divide clumps every few years in spring to keep them vigorous.

Hardy in zones 5a–9b

Spring or early fall.

When it arrives

Your plug tray

Plugs are small and dry out fast. Water on arrival, keep in bright light, and harden off a week before planting. Pot 72-cell plugs into 4 in pots to grow on, or plant into amended soil once rooted.

When to plant

Spring or early fall.

How deep

Set the crown at soil level; don't bury the leafy rosette.

Spacing

12-24 in apart depending on variety.

Soil

Fertile, well-drained loam · pH 6.0–7.5

Fix-it tip: Mix compost into sandy or clay soil. Wet winter soil is the top killer, so raise beds in heavy clay.

Sun

Full sun (tolerates light part shade).

In hot climates, a little afternoon shade extends bloom.

Dormant
New growth

Don’t give up on it

Is it alive? What spring looks like

Keeps a low rosette of dark green leaves through much of winter. New growth starts in early spring; flower stems rise in late spring to early summer.
