Erin Lea is a large golden yellow daylily with 5½ to 6-inch flowers that are the same color throughout. The petals are edged in fringed, frilly ruffles and open flat, making the blooms look even bigger.
Each flower stays fresh for 16 hours or more, and the plant reblooms through the season on 24-inch scapes.
What it looks like
Broad, rounded flowers 5½ to 6 inches across that open flat, in solid sunny golden yellow throughout, with unusually fringed, frilly ruffles along the petal edges. Each bloom lasts a day, but many buds open in turn on branched scapes rising to about 24 inches above a fountain of long, arching, strap-shaped medium green leaves. The foliage clump is about 14 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak bloom wide golden flowers cover the top of the clump.
Growing it with lavender
Its golden yellow flowers are a classic contrast to purple lavender in the same sunny, well-drained soil.
Care
Grow in full sun to light part shade (at least six hours of sun for the best bloom) in average, well-drained soil; once established it handles heat, clay and dry spells. Hardy in zones 3 to 9. Deadhead regularly and pull spent scapes to keep new buds coming, and divide crowded clumps every few years.
