Eversweet is an everbearing strawberry that shrugs off summer heat, keeping good fruit quality even in 100°F weather. It is day-neutral, so it fruits first in spring and then again about every six weeks through summer and into fall.
The berries are firm, bright red, cone-shaped and very sweet, great for fresh eating and freezing. Plants show good disease resistance and grow well in strawberry jars, hanging baskets, pouches and raised beds.
What it looks like
White, five-petaled flowers with golden yellow centers appear repeatedly through the season just above the foliage. Leaves are medium green, divided into three rounded, toothed leaflets. Firm, bright red, cone-shaped berries with small yellow seeds hang among the leaves in successive crops. The plants form low clumps about 8 to 10 inches tall that spread by runners to about 3 feet.
Growing it with lavender
Strawberries enjoy full sun like lavender but want richer, more evenly moist soil, so grow them in a nearby raised bed or kitchen garden rather than among the lavender.
Care
Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil with the crown level with the soil surface, and water regularly, especially while fruit is forming. Hardy in zones 4 to 8. Mulch with straw to keep berries clean, and renew beds every few years with young runner plants.
