Fall in Love Deeply carries satiny, deep rose pink flowers on tall stems in late summer and early fall. It has a darker flower color than its sister variety and a refined, restrained habit.
Unlike aggressive Japanese anemones, it spreads slowly by rhizomes, so it behaves well in mixed borders. It grows 20 to 26 inches tall and thrives in sun to filtered shade, making it useful for tricky light spots, woodland edges, cottage gardens and shaded beds. Deer and rabbits leave it alone.
What it looks like
Satiny, cup-shaped flowers 2.5 to 3 inches across with rounded petals in deep rose pink, surrounding a green center ringed by golden yellow stamens. Flowers are held on tall, slender, branching stems well above the leaves. Leaves are medium green, deeply lobed and three-parted, forming a lower basal mound. The plant is 20 to 26 inches tall and 24 to 30 inches wide. At peak bloom deep rose flowers sway above the green mound.
Growing it with lavender
Japanese anemone wants richer, more evenly moist soil and some afternoon shade, so plant it away from lavender in a partly shaded border or woodland edge, where it will bloom long after lavender is done.
Care
Plant in full sun to part shade in fertile, humus-rich soil that stays evenly moist but drains well; afternoon shade helps in hot summers. Hardy in USDA zones 4-8. Mulch the first winter, leave foliage standing until spring, and be patient, as plants can take a season to settle in.
