Passion for Red has very large, fragrant 6¾-inch flowers in a vivid orange-red with a contrasting yellow eye and throat that shows on all six tepals. The color is very sunfast.
It puts on a big show in early July with some rebloom later in summer, and its thick branched scapes hold the large flowers well over semi-evergreen foliage.
What it looks like
Very large flowers about 6¾ inches across with broad tepals in vivid orange-red and a bright yellow eye and throat zone visible on all six tepals. Each bloom lasts a day, but many buds open in turn on branched scapes rising to about 27 inches above a fountain of long, arching, strap-shaped medium green leaves. The foliage clump is about 16 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak bloom big orange-red flowers are spread across the thick scapes.
Growing it with lavender
Its vivid orange-red blooms make a strong contrast behind lavender in the same sunny, well-drained soil.
Care
Grow in full sun to light part shade (at least six hours of sun for the best bloom) in average, well-drained soil; once established it handles heat, clay and dry spells. Hardy in zones 3 to 9. Remove spent scapes promptly to encourage a later round of flowers, and divide crowded clumps every few years.
