Pooh Bear is a taller daylily with glowing golden orange flowers that are hard to miss. Each 4½-inch bloom has a burgundy eye and a narrow burgundy edge, and the overlapping, ruffled petals make the flowers look full.
It blooms in early midseason and is a robust grower with strong landscape vigor.
What it looks like
Full flowers about 4½ inches across with overlapping, ruffled petals in glowing golden orange, a burgundy eye band and a narrow matching burgundy edge. Each bloom lasts a day, but many buds open in turn on branched scapes rising to about 32 inches above a fountain of long, arching, strap-shaped medium green leaves. The foliage clump is about 19 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak bloom bright golden orange flowers stand tall above the leaves.
Growing it with lavender
Its golden orange flowers contrast brightly with purple lavender in the same sunny, well-drained soil.
Care
Grow in full sun to light part shade (at least six hours of sun for the best bloom) in average, well-drained soil; once established it handles heat, clay and dry spells. Hardy in zones 3 to 9. Snap off faded flowers for a tidy look, cut bare scapes to the base after bloom and divide crowded clumps every few years.
