Wish Me Luck is a cheerful yellow Siberian iris with large, ruffled 4-inch flowers: yellow falls under lighter yellow upright petals. The blooms are held above the foliage on well-branched stems for a long-lasting show early in the season.
It grows about 2 feet tall and 1½ to 2 feet wide. Plant it in a border, rain garden or near water, or cut stems for arrangements.
What it looks like
Large, ruffled flowers about 4 inches across with yellow falls and paler yellow upright standards. Flowers are held above the foliage on well-branched, upright stems, with several buds per stem. Leaves are narrow, grass-like and green. The plant forms an upright clump about 24 to 26 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak the clump is topped with a cluster of soft and bright yellow blooms.
Growing it with lavender
Siberian iris prefers steadier moisture than lavender, so it fits best in a moister border or rain garden nearby, where its early-summer blooms can open just before the lavender begins.
Care
Grow in full sun to part shade in average to rich soil and keep it well watered through the season, especially in spring and early summer. Hardy in zones 3-9. Cut back the foliage in late fall or early spring, and divide crowded clumps in late summer; Siberian iris is not bothered by black walnut.
