Why this pairing works
The honey’s floral notes echo the lavender buds, amplifying the crisp’s autumnal apple flavors. A touch of lavender in the topping adds an unexpected twist that’s inviting and comforting in cooler weather.
Serves 6 Prep 15 min Cook 40 min
Ingredients
- 5 cups peeled and sliced tart apples, such as Granny Smith, about 5 medium apples
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp Culinary Lavender Buds, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold, cut into small pieces
- 3 Lavender Clover Honey Sticks, softened, see tip
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, 1 tablespoon flour, cinnamon, and salt. Spread apples evenly in a greased 8-inch baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix remaining 1 tablespoon flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, chopped culinary lavender buds, and softened butter. Use your fingers or a fork to combine until crumbly.
- Squeeze softened honey from Lavender Clover Honey Sticks into the topping mixture along with vanilla extract. Mix well to distribute.
- Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes or until topping is golden and apples are bubbly and tender under the topping.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm, plain or with cream or ice cream if desired.
To soften honey sticks, gently warm them in a cup of warm water for a minute or two, then squeeze out the honey. Honey isn't safe for babies under 1 year old. Culinary lavender adds delicate flavor—stick to the small amount called for to avoid bitterness.
