Just Peachy Coneflower: Soft Peach Doubles for a Lavender Border
Save
On this page
Just Peachy coneflower has fully double flowers about 4 inches across, with wide, overlapping petals around a full domed center. Each bloom opens peachy orange and softens to salmon pink, so the plant carries a gentle range of warm tones at once. Strong, branched stems hold them upright over a mound of dark green leaves, about 2 to 2½ feet tall.
Some coneflower colors shout. This one speaks in a normal indoor voice, which is exactly why it sits so well beside lavender.
Quick answer: Plant Just Peachy in full sun to light part shade in average to lean, well-drained soil beside lavender. It is hardy in zones 4-8; deadhead for more flowers and leave some seed heads in fall for finches.

A soft palette with lavender
Peach and salmon with purple make a warm, easygoing palette, the kind that suits cottage gardens and soft-colored borders. Just Peachy is especially pretty with pink or white lavender cultivars as well as the classic purples. It begins in early July while lavender is in bloom and carries on into late summer, so the bed still has color after harvest. At about 2 feet, it fits the middle of a border, just behind or between lavender mounds.
Its needs line up with lavender: sun, good drainage and a light hand with fertilizer. Test placements in the Companion Plant Planner.
Planting and care
- Timing: get it in the ground by late summer so roots establish before winter.
- Soil: average to lean and well drained. Wet winter soil is the main cause of loss for double coneflowers.
- Deadheading: cut spent heads back to a side bud to keep new flowers coming.
- Airflow: a sunny, open spot keeps leaf spot and mildew down.
- Fall: leave stems standing and skip heavy mulch over the crown.
- Watch for: aster yellows, which causes distorted green flowers. Remove affected plants.
Finches, vases and containers
Spent flowers left standing in fall feed finches and add winter texture. During the season, Just Peachy is a good cut flower with a faint, lightly sweet, honey-like scent; pair it with lavender stems for a soft summer bouquet. It also does well in a large sunny container.
The 72-cell plug tray
Just Peachy is offered as a 72-cell plug tray, a practical choice for mass plantings and long borders. See the product page for current availability.
Frequently asked questions
How is it different from other double coneflowers?
Its color is the difference: a softer peach-to-salmon blend rather than bright orange or hot pink.
Why are the colors paler in August?
Color is richest in moderate temperatures and fades faster in extreme heat. The flowers also soften naturally as they age.
