White Profusion Salvia: Clean White Spires That Rebloom All Summer
Save
On this page
White Profusion salvia covers a dense, rounded dome with slender spikes of pure white florets held in pale green calyxes. Shear it when the spikes fade and it blooms again and again through summer; its rebloom is especially strong among white salvias.
White goes with everything, which makes this the easy answer for anyone who wants to brighten a lavender bed without adding another color to the mix.
Quick answer: Plant White Profusion in full sun and average, well-drained soil right alongside lavender. Each time the spikes fade, shear it back by about a third for another flush.

White spikes, purple spikes
Perennial salvia and lavender share almost everything: full sun, lean, well-drained soil, drought tolerance once established and a dislike of wet winter ground. White Profusion can go right into a lavender planting with no special care.
The design payoff is contrast without clash. Its spikes repeat lavender's upright form, but the clean white makes the purple look deeper. Alternate groups of white salvia and lavender along a walkway for a crisp, rhythmic border, or use a row of White Profusion in front of a lavender hedge. It opens in late May, before most English lavender, and returns after shearing, so the bed has spikes from late spring through summer. Plan the rhythm in the Companion Plant Planner.
The moon garden idea
White flowers glow at dusk. Pair White Profusion with lavender, white dianthus and silver-leaved plants near a patio or porch, and you have an evening garden that looks good long after sunset, with lavender fragrance on warm nights.
Care notes
- Water: regularly the first season, then only in long dry spells.
- Shearing: cut back by about a third each time the spikes fade. Flowering slows in the hottest weeks, then resumes.
- Air flow: crowded plants in humid weather can show powdery mildew.
- Winter: well-drained soil prevents crown rot. Leave stems over winter or cut back in late fall, and avoid heavy mulch over the crown.
For cutting
White Profusion is rated good for cutting and fair for drying. White and purple spikes together make a simple, elegant bouquet.
Formats offered
It is offered as a full 72-cell plug tray for edging, mass planting and growers, and as a bare root plant for home borders. See each product page for current availability.

Can I cook with it?
No. It is an ornamental salvia, not a culinary sage.
