About Ali'i Kula Lavender

Ali'i Kula Lavender spreads across 10 acres of gardens at about 4,000 feet on the western slope of Haleakala, up Waipoli Road above Kula. The farm sits inside the mountain's cloud line, and it grows about 20 kinds of lavender alongside many other flowering plants, with long views over Maui's central valley.

Because of the mild upcountry climate, something is in flower most of the year. True lavender, the main crop in the fields, blooms from June through September and is harvested continuously at its peak before being cut back in September. French lavender flowers nearly year-round, Spanish lavender in waves, and fernleaf lavender from summer into late fall, helped by the moist mountain air. Plan on at least an hour to walk the grounds.

The gardens are open Friday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with last entry at 3:45, and closed Tuesday through Thursday. No reservation is needed. Admission was $5 per person in 2025, $2 for seniors, military and kama'aina, and free for children 12 and under. Light refreshments are served on the porch overlooking the valley, and the gift shop carries lavender bundles, bath and body goods, culinary items, home goods, apparel and pet products, also shipped from their online store. Private picnic areas and events can be arranged by email.

Kihei and the south shore beaches are about 40 minutes downhill, an easy way to finish the day by the ocean.
