Árboles Ecológicos is a family farm in San Felices, in the province of Soria, run by Damián and Virginia, who have grown lavender for 14 years. The idea took shape in 2007 in the husband's home village, and today about 60 hectares are planted with Maillette lavender and Lavandín Súper and Grosso. They distill their own essential oil and use it in a small line of natural cosmetics. Around 2009 they also planted holm oaks for black truffle.
Lavender tours run from July to mid-August on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, starting in the early evening (listed at 6:30 p.m.) so the walk lines up with sunset. Tours last about two hours and are kept to small groups; book by phone or email. In winter the farm also offers black truffle visits from December to March.
The village is small, so plan meals and beds ahead. The farm suggests booking lunch at the village bar, the Teleclub de San Felices, and staying at Hotel Rural Las Abadías, the rural hotel the family runs in the village. Their shop sells Maillette and lavandin oils, a lip balm, shampoo and a facial cream gel made with their own oil.
Wear comfortable shoes, since the ground is uneven, and visitors with bee allergies should take care in the flowering fields.
