About Bee Box
Bee Box is the shop and café of a three-generation Kaikōura beekeeping family whose work with bees goes back to 1969. They opened Bee Box in 2018 as a single hub for honey production, gifts and coffee, with the honey workshop out the back of the café. It is now at 15 Yarmouth Street in town; older guides list an earlier address on West End.
The shelves carry the family's own Bee Box blue borage and kānuka honey along with raw rātā and organic mānuka from other small producers, plus beeswax candles, honey-based skincare and work by local makers. Stock changes with the harvest, and some honeys sell out, so take what you like when you see it.
The café serves organic espresso and a short menu of honey drinks such as iced honey coffee and a pot of lemon, honey and ginger tea. Food includes herb and cheese scones, savory melts, grain and lentil salads made with vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free ingredients, and baking made with stoneground wholewheat flour milled on the family farm. A handful of slices and tarts are gluten-free. Hours listed in October 2026 were Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm and Sunday 9am to 3pm.
Lavendyl Lavender Farm at 268 Postmans Road is about 7 km north of town, roughly 10 minutes by car. Pick up coffee and honey at Bee Box, then head up for the lavender gardens and mountain views.
