About Lavender Row

Lavender Row sits on a hillside on State Highway 87 between Mosgiel and Outram, about 25 minutes southwest of central Dunedin, with views over the Taieri Plain and Maungatua. The idea began over dinner in early 2017, when Paula and her cousin Kelly planned a farm that could house two families close to the city. After nearly a year of looking, they found this 18-hectare block and hand-mounded the first 18 rows, each 50 meters long, in the summer of 2018. Paula carries the farm on today.

The lavender is harvested on a clear, warm summer day and distilled right away in the farm's own steam vacuum still, a system designed and patented by Paul Greaves, who works with Paula on distilling. The oils are distilled and packaged on the farm and sold with body care, craft and homeware items in the shop and online.

The farm's self-contained cottage sleeps five, with a queen bed and a bunk room, a kitchen, bathroom, laundry and continental breakfast supplies. It is $230 a night for two, plus $30 for each extra guest. Guests can walk the farm. Outram Glen's riverside walking track is a short drive away, Outram is 2.5 km down the road, and Dunedin Airport is about 10 minutes.

The farm does not publish public opening hours, so contact them before stopping by.
