About Paynter's Fruit Market

Paynter's Fruit Market is a family orchard on Paynter Road in West Kelowna with deep roots: the first orchard went in in 1919, and the family opened its original fruit stand in 1951. Today the market is run by Jennay Oliver and stocks more than 1,000 items grown or made in British Columbia, from ready-picked fruit and valley-grown vegetables to local honey and artisan goods. An ice cream counter, an espresso bar and a patio overlooking the orchard make it an easy stop on a hot Okanagan afternoon.

The market is one of the first in the area to open each year; it opened on May 1 in both 2024 and 2025, with early produce from neighboring farms and other BC growers. U-pick runs from mid-July through mid-October and has included cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, pears and seasonal flowers. What is ready changes day to day with ripening and weather, and the farm posts daily u-pick updates on their website. Weather matters here: a hard cold snap in January 2024 wiped out that year's peach and apricot crop and many plums.

Two tours run daily during the season: a 45-minute Farm Tour and a quick 15-minute Snapshot Orchard Tour, both good ways for families and groups to see how the orchard works. In September 2025 the market listed hours of 8am to 8pm daily.

Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm sits across the lake in Kelowna, about 25 minutes away by car. It no longer takes walk-in visits, but its oils and culinary lavender are sold online, so an orchard day here is the hands-on half of an Okanagan lavender-and-fruit trip.
