About The View Winery & Wards Cider

The View Winery and its Wards Cider label sit on a family farm in East Kelowna that has passed through five generations of the Ward and Turton families. Great-granddad Ward built the apple packing house in 1922, and for decades it served the neighborhood's growers. In 2006 Chris Turton and Jennifer Turton-Molgat turned it into a winery and cidery, and the old building is now the tasting room, looking out over the Kelowna valley.

The estate grows Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Ehrenfelser, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Pinotage. Its cider apples include Belle de Boskoop, Chisel Jersey and Bulmers Norman, and the farm once grew Spartan and McIntosh for the fresh market. Expect cool-climate aromatic whites and fruit-forward reds, plus Wards ciders that range from classic apple to fruit and cocktail-inspired flavors.

Tastings run daily all year from 11 to 5:30, and walk-ins are welcome. A flight of five wines or ciders costs $10, waived with a $25 purchase. From May through September the farm adds a private picnic ($28.95 per person) with a five-glass flight and a charcuterie box at a linen-covered table under the old apple trees. The Estate Experience ($45 plus tax) adds a 30-minute guided hike through the orchards and vineyards, with a sparkling tasting at the top, and takes about an hour to an hour and a half. The winery is dog friendly.

Okanagan Lavender & Herb Farm is about 10 minutes away, but it no longer offers tours or walk-in visits; it sells its oils and culinary lavender online.
