About Rosemont Inn Bed & Breakfast
Rosemont Inn is a family-run bed and breakfast in an Italianate Victorian house on Genesee Street, Utica's main avenue. Rita Sleys, who signs her recipes as "Mom and Nonna," runs it with her daughter. The house keeps original Victorian trim and a white marble fireplace mantel, century-old trees line the street out front, and restaurants and most of the city's sights are within walking distance.
The inn lists eight guest rooms, each with a private bath, Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV and its own heat and air conditioning. They range from Sweet Inspirations, a 110-square-foot queen room that is the budget pick, to New Dawn, a 285-square-foot first-floor king with 13-foot ceilings. Chantilly has a claw-foot tub and a five-window bay sitting area, Othello has marble floors and a soaking tub, and one queen room is named Lavender, the only room with an electric fireplace.
Breakfast is included with most rooms and leans farm-to-table. The family's own recipes include an apple bread pudding that changes with the season, from strawberry in spring and blueberry in summer to apple or pumpkin-currant in fall and winter, and a lavender bread pudding with pistachios and apricots. Massage, flowers and a romance package can be added to a stay. From May through October, weekends may carry a two-night minimum, and big local weekends such as Boilermaker and the Colgate and Hamilton graduations need three nights booked by phone.
Spring Creek Lavender in Remsen is about 30 minutes north on Route 12, so a summer stay here pairs well with a morning of lavender picking and dinner back in Utica.
