About Sierra Shadows Farm

Sierra Shadows Farm is a boutique lavender farm in Gardnerville, on the floor of the Carson Valley beneath the eastern Sierra Nevada. It was established in 2018 by a former French teacher, and her husband keeps the farm's bees. The home farm covers four acres with more than 700 lavender plants, and the farm has added nearly 3,000 plants on a leased acre and a half at Faye Canyon Ranch, a newer field that has now bloomed for the first time. The lavender is grown without pesticides or herbicides, though the farm is not certified organic.

Lavender blooms in summer, and once it is cut the farm distills it into essential oil and hydrosol. Visits are by appointment, but the farm store opens during public workshops and events. Events continue into fall until the snow arrives. The fall 2026 lineup included a barn tour, field walk and stargazing night with a local planetarium, plus workshops in pottery, watercolor, jewelry and winter wellness, all held in the barn. Private events for summer 2027 are already being booked through their website.

The farm's own goods include lavender essential oil and hydrosol, lavender syrup, lavender shortbread, a lavender mist, honey and plastic-free bread bags coated with the farm's beeswax. A small boutique on the farm also carries French table linens and home décor. You can also find the farm at the Carson Farmers Market and at the Genoa Candy Dance in late September.

Stateline and the south shore of Lake Tahoe are about 35 minutes up the Kingsbury Grade from the valley.
