About Sixteen Sprigs Lavender Farm
Sixteen Sprigs is a woman-owned lavender farm on North State Road outside Alma, in rural Gratiot County. Owner Wynne Wright grew up on a crop and livestock farm in Kentucky, spent her career as a Michigan State University professor studying women in farming, and came back to the land in 2014 after an internship on a lavender and sheep farm in France. Her first 180 plants went into borrowed and leased ground, including a lot in downtown Lansing. She bought the Alma land in 2019, opened it in 2023 and sold the Lansing site in 2024, so Alma is now the only farm.
About 1,200 plants grow here, with new rows added each spring. Varieties include Folgate, Hidcote, Melissa, Royal Velvet, Provence, Super and Grosso, chosen so bloom is staggered across the summer. U-pick, tours and workshops run during bloom, mid-June to late July, and private group tours can be booked ahead. In 2026 the farm was open Wednesday to Saturday 11 AM to 4 PM from May 1 to June 15, Tuesday to Sunday 11 to 4 during bloom from June 16 to July 31, and Wednesday to Saturday 11 to 4 from August 1 to 29. The farm is now closed until 2027 and plans to post next season's details in a few months.
The farm store sells handmade lavender goods and locally made lavender ice cream. In summer you can also find the line at the Meridian Township Farmers Market in Okemos, at Phillips Orchard & Cider Mill near St. Johns and at Horrocks Farm Market in Lansing.
Apple Barrel Cider Mill in Ithaca, about 20 minutes south, presses cider from its own apples in view of shoppers.
