About Špacapanova hiša – Lavender Fields Experience
Špacapanova hiša is a family home, restaurant, wine cellar and guesthouse in the village of Komen on the Slovenian Karst plateau, near the Italian border. The family has kept up Karst cooking traditions for more than 40 years, cooking mainly with produce from their own garden and vineyard and buying the rest from nearby farmers. The restaurant opens by reservation, and the rooms are available every day of the year.
Their lavender shows up throughout the house. One room has a lavender bath and a massage tub, and guests get home-made lavender soap and shampoo. The family also runs a booked day called Among Lavender and Karst Silence, listed by the local tourism board: a guided walk through the lavender fields with a tasting of lavender liqueur, lavender cookies and lavender tea, then a visit to Miro's cellar to taste wines, spirits, vinegars, cheeses and cured meats, and dinner in the house.
An extended version adds a lavender soap-making workshop, and you take your soap home. You can also stay the night with breakfast, which features house-made meats, cottage cheese and yogurt from a neighboring dairy, stone-ground bread, home-made butter and marmalades. The experience needs at least five people and runs in Slovenian, Italian or English. It is offered year-round by prior reservation. The venue lists accessible entrances, parking and toilets.
