About Tauwhare Berry Farm
Tauwhare Berry Farm has been growing on Tauwhare Road, east of Hamilton, since 1999. Strawberries, raspberries and blackberries are raised in tunnels using hydroponic growing, which keeps the fruit off the ground and the rows tidy for pickers.
Pick-your-own runs from mid-November through February, with raspberries coming on after Christmas, and every weekend in January is a picking weekend. You need to book a date and time slot on their website before you come. In October 2026 they listed entry at $5 for adults and $3 for children aged 4 to 12 (under-3s free), with strawberries at $15 a kilo and raspberries at $25 a kilo. Groups can email for a quote.
The farm shop is the first stop for most visitors. It sells berries from the farm, other local produce and gifts, and the café side serves hot and cold drinks with homemade sweet and savory treats. The ice cream is made with the farm's own strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, and there is a playground for children. Listed shop hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 5:30pm and Sundays and public holidays 9am to 5pm in summer, and 10am to 4:30pm in winter.
Lavender Backyard Garden, on Hamilton's countryside edge, opens its rows for pick-your-own visits in summer, so a January weekend can take in berries in the morning and lavender later in the day, about 15 minutes apart.
