Spain's first lavender interpretation center, beside fields and a distillery in Tiedra, open Tuesday–Sunday in June–August with peak bloom in July.
Tiedra de Lavanda calls itself the first lavender interpretation center in Spain. It sits on the road from Tiedra to San Cebrián, about 6 km from exit 209 of the N-6, in the Montes Torozos foothills of Valladolid province. Six themed rooms cover lavender botany, history and culture, growing, distillation, scent and its uses in perfumery and health. The distillery in the annex processes the harvest from more than 400 hectares of lavender and lavandin.
Peak bloom usually comes in July, though it shifts with each year's weather. From June through August the center opens Tuesday to Sunday, mornings and evenings; from September to May visits are by appointment. The full guided visit covers the center and the distilleries and, during the bloom, access to the fields, which can only be visited through the center. Field tours by 4x4 and workshops on natural cosmetics, soap making and perfumery are booked separately.
Next to a variety trial field, La Lavandeta is a food truck and tasting area serving lavender ice cream, chocolate and other lavender treats. It opens Tuesday to Sunday during the bloom, first come first served, and hosts relaxed evening gatherings among the lavender. The shop sells essential oils, soaps, body milk, lip balm and linen mist.
No, the fields are private farmland; access is through the center's guided visit during the bloom.
