Dahlia is a perennial (on the Flower Farm) cut flower for the Flower Farm and Diversification. It costs 24 coins to plant, needs 9 weeks, and a bunch is worth 52 coins before the reputation bonus.

Overview

Dahlias are planted as tubers after frost danger. On the Flower Farm they count as a perennial that stays in its bed after each cut; in Diversification's enterprise plots they are treated as an annual and leave the plot after harvest.

They need both support and pinching, and the game's note says to protect the crown from freeze.

Growing it

  • Plant between May 20–Jun 15, when the soil is 60°F or warmer and the low is above 32°F.
  • It needs 9 farm weeks before the first cut, then a harvest window of Jul 20–Oct 15.
  • Benefits from Support (stem netting and stakes, 6 coins) and from one Pinch once it is two weeks old.
  • At full health a Flower Farm cut gives up to 18 stems. Without care it still gives at least 6.
  • As a perennial it stays in the bed after a cut. On the Flower Farm it can be cut again after 4 farm weeks.
  • Frost tender: an unprotected low of 32°F or colder ends it in the field.

Tips

  • Dahlia uses both Support (6 coins) and Pinch, so a well-kept bed gives the biggest cuts: up to 18 stems at full health.
  • A Frost cover on the Flower Farm tile protects it from light freezes above 27°F.
