Diversification

Diversification lets an established farm add enterprise plots of cut flowers, herbs, fruit and produce beside its lavender, and look after the lavender rows with pruning tools and frost cover.

🎮 Play it in the game

Overview

The page is the Diversified Farm Plan: 'Build complementary enterprises only when lavender operations, labor, markets and cash flow can support them.' Until the farm is established it shows Foundation stage; after that, Expansion available.

Enterprise plots

  1. Pick a crop from the Enterprise crop library and tap Plant (it costs the seed price).
  2. It grows one week per Advance Week until it reaches its weeks to maturity.
  3. Harvest when it is mature and its harvest window is open. You are paid the crop's value × (1 + reputation ÷ 300) at once, and one unit goes to your diversified inventory.
  4. Annual crops leave the plot after harvest; perennials stay and regrow in about 5 weeks (a peony gives one cut a year).

Cut flowers

The 25 cut flowers follow fixed calendar windows written for a Great Lakes season. Planting pauses for frost-tender crops on a freezing day, when the soil is too cold for that crop, or after heavy rain. Cutting pauses below freezing, on wet foliage and in winds of 20 mph or more. An unprotected freeze ends frost-tender cut flowers in the field.

Seasons for herbs and produce

These are planted in spring or summer and harvested in summer or fall, except garlic, which is planted in fall and harvested in summer.

Lavender row maintenance

  • Pruning tools: pruning shears (free, 12 labor-hours per block), sickle (90, 8 h), hand hedge trimmer (220, 5 h), hedge trimmer (480, 3 h), tractor-mounted row pruner (1,800, 1 h).
  • Prune when the rows are due. Spring renewal pruning cuts woodiness by 16, other pruning by 8; each pass adds care and +3 health.
  • If no spring pruning is recorded by early June, rows grow woodier.
  • Frost cover protects from frost, but leaving it on through a wet week causes a mold-risk incident (−7 health).
  • Without care, a lavender plant lasts about 7 years in the game; consistent care can stretch that toward 25 years.

Tips

  • Grown apples, berries and pumpkins stock the farm kitchen's pantry.
  • When Andrew is on today's crew, coins earned on this page get +25%.
