The Art & Solections Mix is a collection of mangaves, large succulent-like hybrids of agave and manfreda. They keep the heat and drought tolerance of agave while growing faster and showing the bold spotting of manfreda.
They look great on their own, in garden beds or in mixed containers with succulents, annuals and tropicals, and they tolerate a range of moisture levels. In cold climates they are grown as summer container plants or brought indoors as houseplants for winter.
What it looks like
An assortment of succulent rosettes with thick, fleshy, lance-shaped leaves. Colors range across silvery blue-green, green and gray-green, with many leaves speckled or flecked in burgundy, red or purple and some with contrasting margins. Rosettes vary in size from compact to broad and open, with small spines along the leaf edges and at the tips. Grouped together they form a varied display of spotted, star-shaped succulents in cool and warm tones.
Growing it with lavender
Mangave loves the same full sun and sharp drainage as lavender, so a pot of it set among the lavender beds or on a sunny gravel patio makes a bold, spiky contrast for summer before it moves indoors.
Care
Plant in full sun, where the leaf color and spotting are strongest, in gritty, fast-draining soil or cactus mix, and water when the soil is dry. In the Great Lakes region, grow it as a summer container plant and bring it indoors to a bright window before frost. It is perennial only in frost-free or nearly frost-free climates.
