About the Product

Belarina® Cream is a double primrose with fragrant, cream-colored blossoms that look like tiny roses. It blooms heavily from early to mid spring over compact, bright green foliage.

The flowers are sterile, so the plant stays in bloom for a long time. It is fully hardy in the garden, but it is also worth planting in containers and windowsill pots where the scent and double flowers can be enjoyed up close. It prefers shade and steady moisture.

What it looks like

Fully double, rose-like flowers about 1.5 inches across are packed with many layered, rounded petals in soft cream to pale butter yellow. The flowers are clustered in a low dome just above the foliage. Leaves are oblong, crinkled (rugose), bright green and semi-evergreen, forming a compact, dense basal rosette. The plant forms a tight mound about 5 to 8 inches tall and 10 to 12 inches wide. At peak bloom the mound is crowned with creamy double blossoms.

Growing it with lavender

Primroses need shade and constant moisture, the opposite of lavender's hot, dry beds, so plant them in a shaded woodland edge, a north-facing bed or spring containers near the door.

Care

Plant in part to full shade in rich, humus-heavy soil that stays evenly moist, and keep it from drying out, especially in summer. Hardy in zones 4-8. Remove faded flowers to keep it tidy, and divide crowded clumps after bloom every few years.
