Don't Lose Heart has 5½-inch flowers in a rich blend of pink and cranberry. The pink eye zone spreads almost to the edges of the petals, which are trimmed in cranberry and pink, around a vivid green throat.
It blooms in July on compact 22-inch scapes over semi-evergreen foliage, a good size for the front or middle of a border.
What it looks like
Flowers about 5½ inches across with broad petals mostly covered by a large pink eye zone that nearly reaches the edges, outlined by cranberry-red and pink margins, around a vivid green throat. Each bloom lasts a day, but many buds open in turn on branched scapes rising to about 22 inches above a fountain of long, arching, strap-shaped medium green leaves. The foliage clump is about 13 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak bloom pink-and-cranberry flowers sit just above the compact clump.
Growing it with lavender
The pink-and-cranberry blooms soften lavender's purple and enjoy the same full sun and well-drained soil.
Care
Grow in full sun to light part shade (at least six hours of sun for the best bloom) in average, well-drained soil; once established it handles heat, clay and dry spells. Hardy in zones 3 to 9. Snap off faded flowers for a tidy look, cut bare scapes to the base after bloom and divide crowded clumps every few years.
