Going Bananas is a nearly nonstop reblooming daylily with fragrant, 4-inch canary yellow flowers. It begins a little after the earliest yellows in early summer but keeps blooming almost continuously into early fall.
Well-spaced flowers open fully and evenly just above the semi-evergreen foliage, with 10 to 15 blooms per branched scape. At 22 inches it is ideal for edging, mass plantings and containers.
What it looks like
Flowers about 4 inches across with recurved, overlapping tepals in clear canary yellow and slightly ruffled margins, opening fully and symmetrically. Each bloom lasts a day, but many buds open in turn on branched scapes rising to about 22 inches above a fountain of long, arching, strap-shaped medium green leaves. The foliage clump is about 13 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak bloom the low clump carries a steady scattering of bright yellow flowers.
Growing it with lavender
Its steady canary yellow bloom makes a long-season partner in front of lavender, in the same full sun and well-drained soil.
Care
Grow in full sun to light part shade (at least six hours of sun for the best bloom) in average, well-drained soil; once established it handles heat, clay and dry spells. Hardy in zones 3 to 9. Deadhead regularly and pull spent scapes to keep new buds coming, and divide crowded clumps every few years.
