Peachberry Ice has large apricot orange leaves washed with silver, and deep ruffling that flips up bright pink undersides. The orange is strongest on fresh spring growth and softens to a mellow peach through the warmer months.
The plant grows low but wide, just 8 to 10 inches tall and up to nearly 3 feet across, so a few plants cover a good amount of ground. Airy cream flowers rise on burgundy stems in midsummer. Use it for edging, mass plantings or as a warm-toned accent in containers.
What it looks like
A low, wide mound 8 to 10 inches tall and 30 to 34 inches across of large, rounded leaves about 4½ to 5 inches wide. Leaf tops are apricot orange with a fine silver overlay; pronounced ruffles curl the edges up to reveal bright pink undersides. In midsummer, burgundy stems 24 to 30 inches tall hold loose, airy sprays of tiny cream flowers. At peak the plant is a broad peach-orange cushion with pink flashes and a light cream haze above.
Growing it with lavender
Its peach and pink tones make a warm contrast to lavender's gray-green at a bed edge that gets afternoon shade and a bit more moisture.
Care
Takes full sun to full shade; morning sun brings out the brightest orange. Plant in average to fertile, well-drained soil and keep watered in dry periods; hardy in zones 4-9. Trim spent flower stems and clean up worn leaves in early spring.
