Rock Solid lives up to its name as a reliable performer. Its light mauve flowers have an extremely wide, dark purple eye and a matching dark purple picotee edge.
A very high bud count on well-branched scapes and good rebloom keep it flowering from early July through late summer, and the blooms are very fragrant.
What it looks like
Flowers about 5 inches across with rounded petals in light mauve pink, an extremely wide dark purple eye zone, a matching dark purple picotee edge and a green throat. Each bloom lasts a day, but many buds open in turn on branched scapes rising to about 27 inches above a fountain of long, arching, strap-shaped medium green leaves. The foliage clump is about 16 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. At peak bloom mauve flowers with bold purple eyes crowd the branched scapes.
Growing it with lavender
Its mauve and purple tones echo lavender closely and suit the same sunny, well-drained bed.
Care
Grow in full sun to light part shade (at least six hours of sun for the best bloom) in average, well-drained soil; once established it handles heat, clay and dry spells. Hardy in zones 3 to 9. Deadhead regularly and pull spent scapes to keep new buds coming, and divide crowded clumps every few years.
