Zagreb is a well-loved threadleaf coreopsis whose flowers are a rich golden yellow, warmer and deeper than Moonbeam. It blooms steadily from early through late summer.
The plant forms a bushy yet airy clump of needle-fine foliage about 15 inches tall, compact enough for the front of a border or a container. It is long-lived, drought tolerant and easy to care for.
What it looks like
A bushy but airy clump about 15 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide, slowly widening by creeping roots, made of many upright stems. Foliage is very fine, needle-like and medium to dark green with a feathery texture. Daisy-like flowers about 1 to 1.5 inches across have eight bright golden-yellow petals with notched tips around a small darker gold center. At peak bloom the clump is thickly dotted with golden flowers across its top.
Growing it with lavender
It thrives in lavender's sun and lean, well-drained soil, and its golden flowers are a classic complement to lavender's purple through summer.
Care
Plant in full sun in average to lean, well-drained soil; it is drought tolerant once established and dislikes wet winter soil. Hardy in zones 4-9. Shear the plant back by about a third after the first big flush to tidy it and encourage more flowers.
