About Annapolis Winery
Annapolis Winery is a small family operation on a sunny hilltop on the far northern Sonoma Coast, at about 1,000 feet and a few miles inland from Highway 1 and The Sea Ranch. Basil and Barbara Scalabrini moved to Annapolis in 1976, planted vines in 1978, made their first wine, a 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon, and built the winery in 1987. They still handle every step themselves, from farming sustainably without synthetic pesticides to hand picking and bottling without fining agents. The land around the vineyard is redwood forest.
In summer the tasting room is open daily from noon to 5; in winter visits are by appointment, so call first. The current list includes a Brut and a Chardonnay-based Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine, a 2018 Pinot Noir, a 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2020 late-harvest Gewurztraminer dessert wine, with a Pinot Noir port in the works.
A large outdoor picnic area has some covered and umbrella-shaded tables, which makes it a good place to stop with lunch on a coast drive. The winery books live music on summer weekends; the 2026 calendar ran from June 13 through Labor Day weekend, and an art show continues during regular hours. It also hosts weddings and receptions for up to 200 guests, with a full kitchen and views over the vines and forest.
Purple Hills Lavender Farm in the Alexander Valley is the closest lavender farm, but it is on the other side of the coastal mountains, about an hour and a half inland, so treat it as a separate leg of a Sonoma County trip.
