About Blooming Springs Farm
Blooming Springs Farm is a family-run lavender farm on Old State Road outside New Castle, about 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh. Troy and Faith Senchak, who both grew up in the area, bought the property in 2020. After weighing field crops and fruit trees, Troy settled on lavender, and in 2024 friends and family helped hand-plant the first 6,000 plants. By 2026 the farm had grown to roughly 12,000 plants spread over two fields of about nine acres, much of it the lavandin variety Phenomenal.
The farm opens only during bloom, on limited hours. Bloom usually runs from June into mid-July, with the peak around mid-June, though weather moves the dates. U-pick reopens in late June each year. Visitors get scissors, rubber bands and quick cutting instructions, then roam the field to cut their own bundle; everyone signs a waiver at the gate since it is a working farm. In 2026, open hours included a Friday evening and a Saturday morning over the July 4 weekend, plus an opening weekend with a butterfly prize hunt.
Some open days double as vendor days, with local makers set up near the field. A large lavender sign and benches around the rows make easy photo spots for phone pictures; staged or professional shoots need a booking. The farm sells dried lavender bundles, sachets and lavender oil made from its own harvest, and these can be ordered from their website after the season ends.
Fresh bundles last about a week. Hang them upside down in a dark spot to dry them for longer use.
