About Blue Canyon Farm

Blue Canyon Farm grows lavender in the Heber Valley, with the Wasatch Mountains rising around the fields on Edwards Lane. The farm lists more than 19 varieties, among them Betty's Blue, Croxton's Wild, Cynthia Johnson, Folgate, Melissa, Miss Katherine, Pacific Blue, Twickle Purple and the white-flowered Edelweiss, and it publishes a bloom guide for each one.

Bloom here runs about six weeks. Folgate and Tucker's Early open first, Betty's Blue follows in late June, and Mailette, Miss Katherine and Violet Intrigue carry on into early July. Edelweiss peaks in mid to late July, and Super, the variety planted in the farm's you-cut garden, finishes the season from mid-July into early August. Folgate often puts on a second bloom in early fall. Tours, school field trips and seasonal events are booked online ahead of time.

The farm shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., though hours can shift around farm work and supply pickups. Embroidered lavender sachets are sewn on the farm, and the shelves also carry culinary lavender in a grinder, lotion bars, essential oils, buds, body mists, an after-sun lotion and collections for bedtime, spa days, the kitchen, weddings and the holidays. Custom and bulk orders are taken too.

If you can't get to Heber, the farm sells at the Ogden farmers market on Saturdays and the Wheeler Sunday Market in Murray, and its goods are stocked at shops in Midway, Park City and Woods Cross. Park City is about 25 minutes north on US 40 for dinner after an afternoon in the fields.
